I have been interacting with fellow classmates on twitter so far. Many of them have posted intriguing articles that relate to my future teaching career, inspiring quotes, or just updates on how they are managing the course work for this class. It is helpful to remember you are not alone and hear ideas from others on how they are doing the assignments. It is also very helpful when our instructor posts reminders about upcoming due dates; I think that is a great way to utilize twitter in the classroom. I hope to be a kindergarten teacher so I do not see my students using twitter, however it may be a useful tool to communicate to the parents. I could convey quick messages or post pictures of their kids throughout the day so that the parents could be involved and updated about their child's day.

The digital divide affects students in the classroom by creating dissension between students who have access to technology and the internet and those who do not. One student may be able to easily complete their assignments while another may struggle and have to travel to another site to do their homework daily or be using more outdated equipment. A main cause of the great divide is socioeconomic status. School's in a poorer area may simply assign less online homework, knowing their population of students may have difficulty completing their work. However, school's located in middle class or above areas will choose to utilize technology in the classroom and those students will be exposed and experienced with using technology in an educational setting. Today, teachers are encouraged to implement technology in the classroom as an aid. However, it will be difficult to cater to the needs of every student in my classroom and decide whether or not to assign homework that requires technology.

As an aspiring Kindergarten teacher, I plan on using technology such as a smart board fairly often. That can be a great interactive tool with kids that age and I could utilize softwares that the kids will be able to participate in such as learning games on the screen. I probably will not be using technological search engines like "jstor" because they won't require that at that level of learning. I wouldn't have them using Twitter or blogging in the classroom either because that kind of use of the internet is very advanced for that age.
